Thomas Lee Bennett, Jr. – “Butch” to many who knew and loved him died peacefully in Savannah, GA, on January 8, 2017, at the age of 75. The son of Thomas Lee Bennett, Sr., and Jewell Fletcher Bennett, he was born January 31, 1941 in Bogalusa, LA.  He enlisted in the Air Force after high school and spent twelve years traveling the country and the world as a photomapper. While stationed in Montgomery, AL, he met a young woman named Lois Carol. In what he would call the best decision of his life, he wasted no time in proposing to her, and they were married on Dec. 31, 1963. After leaving active military duty, he was hired by IBM as a customer service technician, and he moved to Albany in 1973. He continued to serve his country for many years in the Alabama Air National Guard, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. Tom was an active member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church for 40 years, and he served church as a volunteer for the youth program, and in countless other ways. He was also an active volunteer for Mended Hearts, an association that assists cardiac patients with education and support.

Tom will be remembered as a generous, loving, and dedicated husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his children; Lee Bennett and his wife Jenny of Durham, NC; Aimee Bennett of Savannah; Adam Bennett and his wife Amanda of Albany; Beth Bennett of Savannah; his siblings; Karen Graffius and her husband Richard; Kevin Bennett and his wife Debra; Richard Bennett and his wife Kathy; and five grandchildren; Will, Emily, Morgan, Dakota, and Maggie. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, as well as his brothers; Ronnie and Daniel Bennett.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, with a reception to follow at the church hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tom's life.

He and your mother were in our wedding, only one of many wonderful memories we shared.He was always so much fun at the Air Force Reunions.
